Synopsis
Koyurugi Sota looks up to and adores his senior in school, Takahashi Saeko. With his one-sided love for her, he decides to leave for Paris to learn the art of making chocolates, as she loves chocolates. After returning from Paris, Sota dreams of creating the perfect chocolate to present to Saeko, and that it will make Saeko fall madly in love with him. Saeko, who is already married, is actually quite the airhead, but her actions seem to lead Sota on. Does Saeko not know that Sota is madly in love with her? Or is she just playing with his feelings?
Cast & Characters
Matsumoto Jun plays Koyurugi Sota. I love love love Matsujun to death in Arashi but I haven't been in love with him as an actor lately. There was never one drama that pulled me in (don't kill me I didn't like Hana Yori Dango sry sry sry not sry). Despite my strong dislike towards Sota as a character, this is probably my favourite role that Matsujun has played. Other than the fact that he is just sooooooooooo gorgeous, I actually think he did a good job portraying Sota!
Ishihara Satomi plays Takahashi Saeko. Saeko is a very very different character from Ishihara's past works. This character is totally different from the one she plays in Rich Man, Poor Woman. I was a bit iffy with Saeko as a character at first but I think Ishihara's portrayal of her turned out to be very appealing. She fit the part well and she's just so cute :D
Mizuhara Kiko plays Kato Erena. I've never watched Mizuhara Kiko act before but I love her to death as a model. I think she fits the modeling vibe perfectly and is just plain gorgeous. That is part of the reason why I was so scared to watch her act because I thought I would hate it. Good news is that I didn't end up hating her acting. Her acting definitely wasn't perfect but it honestly made Erena my favourite character hands down. I was totally cheering her on towards the end of the drama. This might give a little hint on my heartbreaking OTP that I will talk about later on.
Mizobata Junpei plays Olivier Tréluyer. I was only going to talk about the main love triangle characters but I just had to talk about Junpei because I love him. So he's just looking dashing as usual and his hair in this drama is just perfect! He's super cute acting as the love sick Olivier. Overall, he's just perfect.
Thoughts & Feelings
Overall, this drama didn't really pull me in that much but it was the finale that totally blew me away. Okay, so that was kind of an overstatement. It didn't blow me away but it really surprised me. It went down a different road for the ending and that made me appreciate it all the more!
Even though I didn't love this drama to death, I still consider it a very solid drama that everyone should watch. The scenes in this drama are very nice visually and just the feeling and the cast in general gives a very good vibe. There were also these really funny scenes that would play in Matsujun's character's head that made me laugh so bad.
Okay, so production value and colouring nada nada aside, lets talk about the finale! My posts always contain spoilers but this next paragraph will contain MAJOR spoilers because I will be spilling everything about the finale. So just scroll on past if you don't want to read the spoilers and please ignore the all caps (I get kind of crazy about the ending).
I am going to first apologize for the caps and ramblings and the totally incoherent sentences that you are about to read. Here goes: the big finale. IT WAS SUCH A WEIRD BUT GOOD BUT SOMEHOW HORRIBLE FINALE ALL AT THE SAME TIME. K so like the drama didn't end up with Sota and Saeko together which made it really realistic and made me like it more because I like realistic things. But then at the same time I really wanted Sota and Erena to end up together just because it seems like they actually genuinely love each other. Like they always support each other and they totally feel so comfortable. But THEN, I like how Sota needed to find himself as a chocolatier first because I don't know I just really like those meaningful plotlines and stuff and omg Sota is really cute at that last scene. Also when he kept on getting rejected by all those women it was really funny lolololol but I was still hoping that he would realize his feelings for Erena.
So to sum up all those ramblings. I appreciate the realistic qualities of the ending with Sota going off to find himself as a chocolatier and finally move on from his unrequited love for Saeko. But at the same time, I am saddened by the fact that he didn't end up choosing any of the three ladies, especially Erena. Overall though, I am happy because Erena looked super pretty at her fashion show ^v^
OST (Soundtrack)
This drama had a killer soundtrack! I didn't like Arashi's song that much, but I thought the BGM was amazeballs. I was going to include a download link but it got taken down due to copyright T^T. I still have a few of my favourite tracks of this album so if you want it I can upload it to dropbox for download. But really you can just search in "Shitsuren Chocolatier OST download" into google and I'm sure you will find something (I just didn't bother to do that after I found out my link was broken).
TOTAL BRO MOMENT

ReplyDeleteI've never thought about that ship before but they actually look kinda cute together!
DeleteIkr! I was almost devastated that he didnt end up with Erena cause I think that they suited each other very well! The ending was pretty frustrating but kind of glad Souta moved forward from being his clingy-Saeko-depended life. And Kaoruko was funny as hell tooXD
ReplyDeleteSame! Id rather he end up with no one than end up with Saeko. I like Saeko but her and Souta's relationship wasn't healthy at all lol.
