Trailer for Yamapi's Live Action Adaptation of Kinkyori Renai

There has been so many trailers/teasers coming out lately for live action adaptations. First it was Parasyte (which looks awesome btw), and then came Ao Haru Ride, and now the first trailer for Kinkyori Renai's (Close Range Love) live action movie has been released!

I've only read half of the original manga because I ended up getting bored and dropped it. The original manga by Mikimoto Rin was released in 2007 and centers around a teacher-student romance. If you're a fan of forbidden love then you should definitely check the manga out. I don't know why teacher-student relationships feel normal in mangas and animes when its so disgusting in real life. I guess its the way they're presented in that shoujo mangas are usually less extreme.

The story is about a genius high school student who falls in love with her substitute English teacher after a slew of events. They end up starting a secret relationship that needs to be kept hidden until graduation.

Yamapi plays the handsome young English teacher who ends up falling for his student after trying to break through her calm exterior. Yamapi's acting has always been a little stiff but I still end up loving his dramas anyways. Plus he looks extra handsome in the poster. Komatsu Nana plays the straight faced high school girl who is always at the top of her class. I've never watched anything from Komatsu but she is definitely getting pushed more this year because she has been in so many projects lately its hard to keep track. When it comes out this movie will probably be the first work I'll see from her so I'll see how I feel about her then. As for now, I'm not really loving her completely yet.

Here is the trailer and translations from beauxmont on tumblr:

Yamapi (Haruka Sakurai): I definitely won’t let you escape, so prepare yourself.

Komatsu Nana (Uni Kurugi): Please move away.

Narration: An all time-high tsundere teacher and a cool genius high school girl.

Yamapi (Haruka Sakurai): You…do you always suppress your feelings like that?

i fell in love with a teacher who was close yet far.

Komatsu Nana (Uni Kurugi): I hate him…and I think he’s the worst, but even so…even so…I like Sakurai-sensei!

Ao Haru Ride Live Action Trailer Released!

Heyo! So this news is a couple days late but the live action movie of Ao Haru Ride has just released its first ever preview and I am super excited. Being a big fan of the manga, I wasn't really fully satisfied with the casting but after seeing this teaser, I'm thinking that the movie might turn out really well.

First off, the feeling this teaser gives off has a nostalgic feeling to it and really reflects on the manga's name itself. Ao Haru Ride basically means Sprint Youth Ride. Its not a literal translation but its the basic idea that the artist, Sakisaka Io, wants to present. The soft background music and the glowy cinematography will seriously make your heart pound and think back to your youth. Even if your currently in your youth like me, it will still give off butterflies.
Live action adaptions of anything be it mangas, animes, or novels are always immediately rejected by loyal fans before they even come out. Its mostly because everyone has their own opinions on what the characters would look and act and sound like in real life. When I first heard the news of the live action, I was pretty pumped. As long as the live action is entertaining and the cast is good, I'll probably like it even if it has some differences between the original work. And some of them even turn out better than people expect like Rurouni Kenshin (in theatres August 1st!! SO EXCITED) and Kimi Ni Todoke.

I think the casting and writing of a film are equally important and could fail a movie if not done right. When the cast for Ao Haru Ride came out, I was honestly pretty sad. The side characters were all cast perfectly but the mains just didn't feel in place. I love Tsubasa Honda but I just couldn't imagine her as Yoshioka. And Higashide Masahiro felt a little too old to play Kou despite his dashing looks.

After seeing this teaser however, I feel like it might just work out. It's always a no no to assume things before hand because once the real thing is released, there will always be big differences. I have to say that the cast has great chemistry together and I'm just pleased that they all look genuinely happy when they smile.

I'm not sure how closely the live action will follow the original but here is the synopsis for the manga:
Yoshioka Futaba (Tsubasa Honda) has a few reasons why she wants to "reset" her image and life as a new high-school student. Because she's cute and had a demure personality she was ostracized by her female friends in junior high, and because of a series of misunderstandings and mishaps, she couldn't get her feeling across to the one boy she has always liked, Tanaka Kou.
Now in high school, she is determined to be as unladylike as possible so that her friends won't be jealous of her. While living her life this way contentedly, she meets Tanaka-kun again, but he now goes under the name of Mabuchi Kou (Higashide Masahiro). He tells her that he felt the same way as she did when they were younger, but that they cannot go back. Will Futaba be able to continue her love that never even started from three years ago?
I suggest you guys to read the manga if you haven't yet. The latest chapter was a bit frustrating and I literally raged after reading it but its what manages to keep me reading.

There is a tumblr that posts news and beautiful edits on the manga so be sure to check that out here!

Spring Youth is a flicker of brightness…
Spring Youth is sweet and bright…
Spring Youth is fragile, painful and fleeting…
Spring Youth is always mistaken.

Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo N (neo) Gives A Great First Impression (Ep 1-2)

Japanese detective dramas are a classic and have found its way onto almost every single drama season since the beginning of time. Any time in the year you will be able to find a detective drama on air. Usually, when drama aren't doing so well, TV networks usually resort to detective dramas as a fallback plan because everyone loves them so much. I can't explain why they are so popular but I sure am a big fan of them myself. Through years of watching, I came to know the good and the bad, and Kindaichi Shonen no Jikenbo N is a very well done one from what I've seen so far.

Zero No Shinjitsu First Impressions (Ep 1-2)

When I found out Takei Emi was starring in a new drama, I was pretty excited. What can I say? She is my bias after all. But I have to admit I was disappointed when I saw the premise of the drama.

Marriage, Not Dating is an Unexpected Little Gem (Ep 1-7)

So last week I started watching Marriage, Not Dating. I caught up with all the episodes and I can surely say that I have completely fallen for this drama. The acting, the chemistry, the storyline, and the cute OST. They all hit just the right notes with me. Its already a fan favourite on Viki, but it totally deserves more attention. The ability to deliver such a funny and realistic drama is no easy feat. Especially since it uses the cliché but much loved 'love contract' plot device. I'm not even going to deny, love contract dramas are my guilty pleasures. This drama takes the classic plotline of faking it till its real to a whole new level with superb acting and execution.

Trot Lovers Brings On The Waterworks (Ep 9-10)

Raise your hand if you cried watching episode 10 of Trot Lovers. You can't see me right now but I'm violently waving my hands in the air. Seeing how TL started off as such a funny romcom, I never thought I'd be crying already. If you haven't watched episode 10 yet, then I must warn you that there are a lot of spoilers after the jump. If you haven't watched Trot Lovers yet, then I hope you reconsider because this drama is just hitting all the right notes for me. That aside, if you did watch episode 10, then you are welcome to bawl with me after the jump.

2014 Anticipated Summer Jdramas

A new Jdrama season has arrived! It's always both exciting and sad at the same time when a drama season comes to an end. Last season, I saw the most impressive Jdrama in a while in the form of BORDER. That drama seriously amazed me. Along with that, there were other entertaining ones like Shinigami-Kun and Bitter Blood. First Class was a big guilty pleasure for me as well. Although this upcoming season will probably not be as good as the last, I'm still really excited for a few of them because they include my biases.

Favourite OST's of 2013

I've been meaning to do a post on OST's for a while. But I've just been too lazy because I'm not sure how to go about doing it. Do you sometimes just put off something that you know is really really simple? When laziness takes you over, there is nothing you can do about it. It's like when you're in the perfect sleeping position, but you realize that you've forgotten to turn off your lights or that you haven't taken out your contacts yet. I'm going way off topic here, but anyways, I have overcome my laziness, and am now making a post about my favourite OSTs of 2013. It was very very hard to narrow it down because I definitely had like 20+ songs.

Doctor Stranger Keeps Faltering (Ep 1-17)

It's the pre-finale week for Doctor Stranger this week with episode 17 airing today. I've already watched it and have a lot of things to say about it. But firstly, I'm going to make it clear that I am a Quack shipper. However, I am not delusional. Soo Hyun is my favourite character and I really just want her to be happy in the end. I don't give a damn about who she ends up with as long as everything is resolved. But with the stupidity that Doctor Stranger is giving me, I can pretty much say that I've already dropped this drama mentally, its just my OCD acting up that I have to watch it until the end because I've already come so far.

Trot Lovers Starts Off Quirky and Cute (Ep 1-3)

So Trot Lovers is halfway into its second week now and I'm currently liking how the show has progressed. It really isn't a perfect drama and it actually has a lot of holes in the storyline when it's only the 3rd episode. I'm still waiting for the 4th episode tomorrow and I'm pretty excited how the story will turn out.
